“Work” là một chủ đề quen thuộc trong bài thi IELTS. Tuy nhiên cũng không dễ để bạn có thể đạt được điểm cao nếu bạn thiếu đi kỹ năng Paraphrase (diễn đạt lại một ý bằng từ ngữ khác), đặc biệt đối với IELTS Writing và Speaking. Vai trò của paraphrase trong IELTS Writing và Speaking
Đối với IELTS Writing, trong cả Task 1 và Task 2, bạn đều cần viết câu General Statement bằng cách paraphrase lại đề bài, chắc chắn là chúng ta không thể “copy paste” đề bài vào bài viết của mình đúng không nào?
Trong phần IELTS Speaking, giám khảo rất chú trọng vào khả năng sử dụng từ vựng và lối diễn đạt, do đó để trả lời câu hỏi cho hay và đạt điểm tốt thì các bạn cũng phải dùng tới kỹ năng paraphrase.
Cách Paraphrase từ vựng chủ đề “Work”
Dưới đây là list các từ vựng phổ biến thường gặp nhất trong các đề thi IELTS - chủ đề Work. Kèm theo đó là cách sử dụng từ vựng trong từng ngữ cảnh để bạn có thể dễ hình dung và ghi nhớ:
- Employees = staff: nhân viên
Ex: In reality, most small security firms limit the concept of employee performance evaluation to an audit of unpunctuality and absenteeism.

- Employer = boss: ông chủ
Ex: This is true in so far as it goes, but it ignores the personal nature of the duty an employer has to each of his each individual employees.

- Get a good job = get a well-paid job: có được một công việc tốt
Ex: I believe that having a 6.5 IELTS certification means giving you a better chance to get a good job.

- More job opportunities = greater employment possibilities: nhiều cơ hội nghề nghiệp hơn
Ex: Large numbers began migrating North looking for more job opportunities and living conditions.

- Spend a large amount of time working = devote a huge amount of time to their work: dành một lượng thời gian lớn làm việc
Ex: The young today spend a large amount of time on social media.
→ The young today devote a huge amount of time to social media.
- Working longer hours = the frequency of long working hours = the extension of working hours: làm việc nhiều giờ
Ex: I am supportive of the argument that working longer hours is believed to have an impact on general well-being and result in work-family conflict and job stress.
→ I am supportive of the argument that the frequency of long working hours/the extension of working hours is believed to have an impact on general well-being and result in work-family conflict and job stress.
- Have a severe impact on…= have an adverse/a harmful/a negative impact on…: có ảnh hưởng tiêu cực/có hại tới…
Ex: I personally believe that it is not only has a severe impact on the workers themselves, but also on their family bonds and their community.
→ I personally believe that it is not only has an adverse impact on the workers themselves, but also on their family bonds and their community.
- Low work productivity = poor work performance: hiệu suất làm việc thấp
Ex: Failing health leads to more sick leave and low productivity.
→ Failing health leads to more sick leave and poor work performance.
- Make more errors at work = be more likely to have accidents: có nhiều sai sót/ có khả năng cao gặp tai nạn
Ex: Working overtime on a daily basis, many employees frequently feel exhausted and make more errors at work than they used to.
→ Working overtime on a daily basis, many employees frequently feel exhausted and they are more likely to have accidents.
- Feel bored and stressed = experience feelings of boredom and stress: cảm thấy mệt mỏi và căng thẳng
Ex: Students are required to complete a large number of assignments, so they might feel stressed and bored after studying intensely.
→ Students are required to complete a large number of assignments, so they might have experience feelings of boredom and stress after studying intensely.
- Take on leadership roles = be in leadership positions: tiếp quản cương vị lãnh đạo
Ex: Potential leaders are usually those who take on leadership roles and enthusiastically enjoy the game as well as encourage others to do the same.
→ Potential leaders are usually those who are in leadership positions and enthusiastically enjoy the game as well as encourage others to do the same.
- Cause a company great damage = to face a risk of monetary loss: gây cho công ty tổn thất nặng nề/đối mặt với nguy cơ hao hụt tài chính
Ex: The recent scandal of the brand ambassador may cause great damage to the company's revenue.
→ The company’s revenue is now facing a great risk of monetary loss due to the recent scandal of the brand ambassador.
- Higher unemployment rates = increase in the proportion of people who are out of work/jobless: tỷ lệ thất nghiệp cao hơn/ sự gia tăng trong tỷ lệ người không có việc làm
Ex: The higher unemployment rates quickly snowballed into a major budget problem for the government.
→ The increase in the proportion of people who are out of work quickly snowballed into a major budget problem for the government.
- The career that they are genuinely passionate about = the career path that they have a passion for: sự nghiệp mà họ thực sự đam mê
Ex: Artists and musicians, for instance, are known for choosing the career path that they have a passion for, but that does not always provide them with enough money to live comfortably.
→ Artists and musicians, for instance, are known for choosing the career that they are genuinely passionate about, but that does not always provide them with enough money to live comfortably.
- Have the chance to learn various skills and experiences = have the opportunity to learn a wide range of useful skills and experiences = have the opportunity to develop their creative thinking and sharpen their skills and abilities: có cơ hội học hỏi những kỹ năng và kinh nghiệm hữu ích/ có cơ hội phát triển tính sáng tạo và rèn giũa các kỹ năng
Ex: People who choose to start their career early instead of going to university or college can have more chances to learn various skills and gain real experiences for their jobs.
→ People who choose to start their career early instead of going to university or college can have the opportunity to learn a wide range of useful skills and experiences for their jobs.
→ People who choose to start their career early instead of going to university or college can have the opportunity to develop their creative thinking and sharpen their skills and abilities for their jobs.
- Pursue their career = chase after their dream career: theo đuổi sự nghiệp của họ
Ex: It seems to me that students with higher academic background are likely to be more successful in pursuing their career.
→ It seems to me that students with higher academic background are likely to be more successful in chasing after their dream career.
- Stay in the same position for too long = doing the same jobs for years = staying in the same job for a long period of time: ở tại một vị trí trong thời gian dài
Ex: On the other hand, staying in the same position for too long is a slow process of career growth. Same work throughout the career is also tedious to many people.
→ On the other hand, doing the same jobs for years is a slow process of career growth. Same work throughout the career is also tedious to many people.
→ On the other hand, staying in the same job for a long period of time is a slow process of career growth. Same work throughout the career is also tedious to many people.
